Employer talk - Geoff Scott: Keepmoat Homes

During enrichment, we had the pleasure of a visit from Geoff Scott, Social Value Manager at Keepmoat Homes. Geoff gave our learners helpful advice on how to approach a job interview, telling them to “walk through the door feeling positive”.

Geoff shared his own inspiring story; as a young boy his family worked down the pits, meaning that during the Miners’ strike there was no money coming into the home. So, he left school with no qualifications and worked various jobs to earn money.

Geoff stressed that he was never afraid of hard work, and expressed how working hard equipped him with transferrable skills. Eventually, at the age of 32 he gained his first qualifications in Maths and English- since then his career has grown and he now has Degrees in Management and Project Management. Geoff stressed the importance of having qualifications in Maths and English, as they are used every day at work.

Last year Keepmoat Homes took on three apprentices from Trinity Solutions- Geoff shared this opportunity with the Learners and explained that if you don’t have Maths and English qualifications, you will do them alongside your apprenticeship.
