Engineering and Electronics in Motor Vehicles

This week in Motor Vehicle, our pre-16 learners have been getting hands-on with engineering and electronics. They’ve been following detailed instructions to build a fully functioning engine using a Meccano-style kit, giving them a practical insight into how mechanical components work together. This activity has helped them develop problem-solving skills and an understanding of the principles behind engine design and assembly.

Before half term, we celebrated excellent attendance with a special trip to Fayre Play at The Gate for 20 learners who achieved 100% attendance. The experience was full of fun and laughter, although some learners didn’t believe everything was quite fair, especially when it came to point scoring! It was a great way to reward their commitment and consistency with a memorable outing.

First Drop Down Day

Frightfully Good Writing: English learners Get Creative for Halloween

This October, English learners embraced the spooky season with a focus on zombies, apocalypse preppers, and Halloween-themed writing tasks. In class, learners read texts exploring the traits and behaviours of zombies—what they eat, what draws them in, and what keeps them at bay. They also critically examined the phenomenon of “prepper culture,” questioning how preparing for imagined threats might negatively impact others in society.

Our learners were set a simple but tricky task: build a bridge out of nothing but dry spaghetti and tape. The bridge had to be strong enough for a ball to roll all the way across without breaking. It sounded easy… until the spaghetti started snapping!

Keira has been a valued learner on Trinity Solutions Academy's Learn to Work Programme. Attending ALD two days a week, she worked hard towards her Level 1 Diploma in Beauty Therapy, learning a range of skills including nails, facials, make-up, face painting, and more. Keira showed her creativity, and a real passion for the beauty industry. It’s been lovely to see her confidence grow as she’s developed her techniques and found her own style.

In the Brick workshop, the learners have volunteered to repair the wooden garden bench and table. The process began with sanding — Learners carefully smoothed the rough surfaces, removing splinters, old paint, and imperfections to reveal the natural wood grain underneath. .

In construction, learners worked in pairs to construct a Cavity Wall. A Cavity Wall consists of 1 inner wall lining which are the smaller bricks laid together. The gap is where the cavity wall insulation would be, and the larger concrete blocks would be the outer wall lining.
