A Learner With a Story to Tell

In English lessons, we get to see learners discover their strengths in unexpected ways. Recently, one learner showed just how powerful creative writing can be. He wrote a striking story about a lone child drifting through nothingness, shaping oceans, forests, and mountains out of emotion and imagination before the dream collapses back into reality.

Forest School Bird Box

A learner at forest school had a productive morning gathering fallen branches, leaves and scraps of weathered wood, he carefully selected pieces that could be given a new purpose. With guidance, they measured, sawed, and fitted the recycled wood together, discovering how each unique shape can become part of a sturdy bird house.

Cinema Trip Success!

Our learners had a fantastic time on their recent cinema trip. The excited group travelled together to the cinema as part of our curriculum enrichment programme, putting their independence skills into action in a fun, real-world setting.

Forest School Adventures

Over the last two weeks, learners have taken part in engaging Forest School sessions, making full use of the outdoor environment and the variety of activities available. They created Christmas wreaths using natural materials, made bird feed lard balls to support local wildlife, collected wood, and worked together to build protective walls from sticks around the new fire pit.

It was a crisp, sunny morning at Forest School, and the learners gathered around their tutors. The forest was alive with the sounds of rustling leaves and chirping birds, but the animals were beginning to struggle with the colder weather. Ben and Paul had an idea to help them—and the learners were excited to pitch in. "Today, we're going to make fat balls for the birds and other animals," they said, smiling at the group. "These will help keep them nourished through the chilly days ahead."

First Aid Training June 2025

Learners have recently completed a Young Responders first aid course that was organised by St Johns Ambulance through the Violence Reduction Unit. Learners spent the afternoon completing the course. They learnt how to put somebody into the recovery position, confidently do CPR and also, how to control and stop a heavy bleed. All the learners that took part were competent, enthusiastic, and confident and they were also very engaged the whole session.

Violence Reduction Unit - Knife Crime

This week, we welcomed the Violence Reduction Unit, who delivered a powerful and informative session on knife crime. The aim was to raise awareness among learners about the dangers and consequences of carrying knives, as well as the wider impact on individuals, families, and communities. The session featured real-life stories, hard-hitting statistics, and practical advice on staying safe and making positive choices.

LLDD Employer Fair Projects

LLDD learners have been working hard to produce items to sell at this year’s employer fair.
They used Wednesday lessons to design and make the items to sell, the most enjoyable part was seeing them produce something from scrap wood to an item someone would like to buy.

World Book Day 2024

Farm to Table

Entry Level English learners enjoyed bringing the Trinity Academy Newcastle Farm into the classroom for World Book Day this year. Blueberry, the rabbit, was an eager listener as each learner read their chosen text aloud for ten minutes. Evidence suggests that reading to animals can help young people to be open to learning experiences and overcome negative associations with an activity. Learners were visibly relaxed during their sessions and enjoyed pausing to check on Blueberry’s reaction or stroke her fur. One of our learners from the Land-Based Studies programme commented that Blueberry had clearly enjoyed the companionship and interaction as her body language showed she felt safe and relaxed. A WBD win-win!

Flat Pack Mayhem

This week our learners have been supporting the facilities staff by building some of the furniture that has been delivered across the site. Learners were able to use their teamwork skills and vocational knowledge to complete multiple items of flat pack furniture efficiently.

Maths in the News

There have been discussions in the maths department recently surrounding a recent news article about making mathematics compulsory for learners up to the age of 18. The article briefly outlined the government intentions to make some sort of maths compulsory for learners, up to the age of 18.

Breakfast Club

National Pi Day

In the maths department, we have recently celebrated National Pi Day. Learners were invited to take part in some of the activities to help celebrate this event. Some of the activities included a Pi Day Hunt, Pi Day Problems (question and answer sheet), a memory test to see how many numbers of Pi a learner can remember, and an art competition related to Pi.

Projects on the farm

EHCP Reviews

All of our Trinity Post 16 Solutions Ltd learners have had their annual EHCP reviews this half term and what a half term it has been! All learners attended their reviews and spoke confidently, asked questions and made comments regarding their progress. Parents/carers were able to talk about the progress they have made at home and out in the community towards their targets.

International Womans Day
