Land Based Studies Bug Hotels

This week, Land Based Studies learners have undertaken a project where they have designed and constructed a Bug Hotel.

A Bug Hotel is structure created to provide shelter for insects. They can come in a variety of shapes and sizes depending on the specific purpose or specific insect it is catered to. Most consist of several different sections that provide insects with nesting facilities – particularly during winter, offering shelter or refuge for many types of insects.

Our leaners have places several layers in the hotel to cater to different insects, each with a variety of materials ranging from hay and bricks, to sticks and piping.

They used excellent teamworks skills and communication skills to apply themselves to this team project. This demonstrated the transferable skills which could be used across a variety of careers, all whilst making an accommodating area for the little creatures on our farm.
