National Apprenticeship Week 2020
To kick start our activities as part of National Apprenticeship Week 2020, Bill Tyler from Newcastle College delivered a presentation to students about Apprenticeships as a potential progression opportunity. The presentation focussed on the benefits of apprenticeships, the college's application, screening and selection processed and offered students hints and tips on interview techniques and employer expectations. Students were also invited to attend the Apprenticeship Open Evenings which take place at the college on the first Wednesday of every month.
Motor Vehicle students were given the opportunity to speak with an ex-Trinity Student who has successfully developed his career in the Motor Trade industry as a result of his time at Trinity Solutions Academy. Barry inspired learners with his story having walked in their shoes, he talked to students about his work placement being instrumental in him securing employment, how he came close to giving up and how living in Elswick he could have easily taken a very different route. He spoke of employer expectations, having the right attitude and being proactive in their learning. Students demonstrated interest, they were engaged and asked questions throughout.
Newcastle University hosted a visit giving students a well-rounded insight into what life is like at University, the visit incorporated a campus tour, ‘a day in the life’ presentation as well as activities focussing on budgeting and student finance. Students found the visit informative and as a result, felt they could make a more informed decision about future learning opportunities.
