Forest School Bird Box

A learner at forest school had a productive morning gathering fallen branches, leaves and scraps of weathered wood, he carefully selected pieces that could be given a new purpose. With guidance, they measured, sawed, and fitted the recycled wood together, discovering how each unique shape can become part of a sturdy bird house.

As they work, the forest becomes both teacher and workshop—birds calling overhead, leaves rustling underfoot—reminding them why their creation matters. By the end, the learner proudly holds a simple but thoughtful shelter, crafted with respect for the woodland that inspired it. They were able to place it up on a tree at camp near a wildlife camera so they could see, and hope birds take shelter from the cold weather approaching.
