Learners Explore Life-Saving Lessons at Safety Works!

A group of enthusiastic learners recently took a trip to Safety Works!, an interactive safety centre in Newcastle, for a hands-on day of learning about personal and community safety.

The visit began with a first aid session led by a member of St John Ambulance, where the learners were taught how to respond in emergencies. They practised how to check for breathing, place someone in the recovery position, and even tried their hand at CPR techniques. The learners were eager to get involved and asked thoughtful questions about real-life situations.

Next, the group took part in a powerful workshop with Northumbria Police, learning about the dangers of drugs and the importance of making positive choices. The session opened up honest discussions and helped learners understand the long-term effects of drug misuse.

Finally, Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service delivered an engaging fire safety demonstration. Learners explored a realistic house set-up and learned how to spot fire hazards in the home, what to do if a fire breaks out, and the importance of smoke alarms and escape plans.

The trip was a valuable experience that gave learners the confidence and knowledge to stay safe and help others in an emergency. Everyone returned to college buzzing with new skills and a deeper understanding of their role in keeping their community safe.
