From the Classroom to the Barn: A Learner’s day on the farm

A learner has recently started their work placement on the farm, they weren’t quite sure what to expect. The sights, smells, and sounds of farm life were a whole new world and something totally new to them, however they are embracing it and enjoying every minute of it.
A typical day on the farm is that the learner comes armed with a shovel, wheelbarrow, and a pair of wellies and gets ready to get stuck in.
Their first job is to carry out animal welfare checks. Checking all of the animals on site to make sure they are all well. Next job is to feed the animals and to make sure they have fresh water to drink. Their third job is to clean out all the barns and pens and refill their beds with fresh hay.
The learner has shown competence and confidence over the past couple of weeks.
