Inspiring Futures: Visit to Hedley’s College
Learners from Health and Social Care visited Hedley’s College in Forest Hall on Thursday 12th March. During the visit, our learners were introduced to the learners who attend the college, and they watched a video explaining how and why Percy Hedley was established, as well as the positive impact it has on the lives of its learners. This included inspiring opportunities such as adaptive surfing and participation in police cadets.
Learners then received a presentation about the different roles within the college and heard about Mel’s impressive career journey—from starting as a Learning Support Assistant at age 17 to becoming an Assistant Principal. The college’s learners also delivered a disability awareness session, sharing their personal perspectives on their disabilities and explaining what types of support help them most. To finish the visit, our learners were shown a range of equipment used to support individuals with disabilities, including hoists, standing frames, weighted blankets and gaiters.
