Health and Social Learners on the Farm

Our Health and Social Care learners recently spent time on the college farm, exploring how outdoor environments can support wellbeing and mindfulness. Away from the classroom, students had the opportunity to care for animals, enjoy the fresh air, and take part in calming farm activities.

The visit helped learners understand the importance of mental health and how simple activities can reduce stress, improve focus, and promote positive wellbeing. Spending time with animals encouraged communication, empathy, and responsibility, all key skills for future health and social care professionals.

Learners reflected on how being outdoors helped them feel calmer and more relaxed, while also developing a greater understanding of person-centred approaches to supporting wellbeing. The experience showed that health and social care is not only about looking after others, but also about understanding the importance of caring for your own mental health.

The farm visit was a valuable reminder that wellbeing can be supported in many different ways, and that nature can play an important role in helping people feel healthy, happy, and connected.
