Shouting loud and being heard
Engagement learners have been actively participating in weekly enrichment sessions.
Votes for schools tackle topical news stories and serious issues affecting young adults. These interactive lessons have prompted mature and open debates where each individual has been supported to voice their perspective on the topical issue under discussion. At the end of each lesson, learners can have a national vote if they agree or disagree with a posed question. This is giving our learners a real opportunity to be heard not only in the classroom but on a national level. Findings are shared with major organisations such as ‘show racism the red card’ ‘scouts’ and the national government. A discussion on what leads young people to offend prompted engagement learners to create this classroom display prompting not only some fantastic creative talents but statistical national research on knife crime in the UK
